Chiropractic adjustments: how many do I really need? Part 1

Auburn Hills, Michigan residents are asking: How many chiropractic adjustments do I need? Here’s the short answer: “It depends.”

How many chiropractic adjustments you really need depends on two very important things.

  1. What you want out of your chiropractic care.
  2. The system of care your chiropractor is using.

In this article, let’s talk about you and your use of chiropractic care first. We’ll save part two to talk about what your chiropractor is doing with his or her system of care.

“How many chiropractic adjustments do I need?” Can only be answered when you’ve answered the question: “Why am I visiting the chiropractor?”

You see, in any given week, hundreds of patients will walk into the same Auburn Hills chiropractic office, and many of them will have different goals in mind even though they are receiving similar care. It’s very different than a routine visit to the medical doctor, where everyone in the waiting room basically has the same thing in mind: “Give me something to make this feeling go away.”

For some it will be about symptom control: their chiropractic visit will be to get out of pain. They are simply looking for relief and relief only. They tend to see chiropractic adjustments like a hand-delivered aspirin. While this isn’t the best or most productive way to use chiropractic care, chiropractic adjustments have far fewer risks than pain killers, so it isn’t a bad thing to visit the chiropractor when you are in pain.

Others are looking to keep pain away, before it happens, and they maintain a schedule of maintenance care. They have already done the whole pain thing, and now that they have recovered with chiropractic care, they don’t want to slide backward to that dark place again. Maintenance care helps them live a better quality of life, freeing them to do the things they love to do.

The third chiropractic way.

There is a third way to use chiropractic care. It involves having a bigger picture than treating pain, or just keeping the pain from coming back. Those who choose the third way have gotten the big idea that a healthy life lived to the fullest extent depends on a healthy nervous system, which depends on a healthy spine, and that in this day and age, a healthy spine depends on quality chiropractic adjustments.

They understand that spinal hygiene is just as important as dental hygiene. They wouldn’t give up chiropractic adjustments any more than they would give up a teeth cleaning. The receive periodic chiropractic check-ups to see if they need an adjustment, just like they receive periodic dental check-ups to see if they have a cavity.

Which group do you belong in? If you use chiropractic adjustments for symptom control alone, it may only take a few adjustments to get you out of pain in our Auburn Hills upper cervical chiropractic office.

If you are interested in long-term health maintenance, then you may require more adjustments than in just the case of symptom control.

If you’ve got the big idea, then you probably aren’t worried about how many chiropractic adjustments you need, anyway. You’re probably more concerned with the quality of the adjustments you receive. And holding your alignment for as long as you can.

You should know that quality adjustments and holding your alignment are two things that concern us as well.

How many chiropractic adjustments do you need? It depends. It all depends on why you are choosing to use chiropractic care.
