How to end chronic daily headaches

How was I able to help a patient end 50+ days of a chronic daily headache? What could I see on a simple x-ray that radiologists could not see on a CT scan or an MRI? Why did it take a referral from a family friend to get this patient into a chiropractor?

All very interesting questions. Let’s dive in.

How we ended chronic daily headaches for this patient

Most of the details are found in the short video above. But here is a brief summary.

  • A 21 year old male was hit in the head by a fallen branch
  • He was diagnosed with a mild concussion
  • Some months later he started noticing headaches
  • His headaches here and there turned into a 50+ day marathon of one continuous headache
  • At the same time he began noticing his short term memory was becoming a problem – he had to focus more to remember and stay on task
  • In the meantime a CT scan and an MRI revealed “nothing” that could explain his headaches
  • He was referred to our office by a family friend, where a free screening showed external signs of internal stress
  • We took an x-ray which showed his first neck bone was tucked up against the back of his skull
  • And he had a major misalignment of his upper cervical spine (top of his neck), which was corrected very gently over a series of visits

Over the next 4 to 6 weeks his headaches became less and and less finally faded away.

More than just a 50 day headache went away

An after image of his neck revealed a change in the position of his first neck bone (atlas) and an improvement in his reverse cervical curve.

A lot of unnecessary headache suffering could be ended if:

  • people were not so programmed to fear all spinal care,
  • and radiologists sent their negative CTs and MRIs for a structural evaluation by a chiropractor

Thank goodness this young man was smart enough to get a second opinion.

Post-concussion syndrome, brain fog, and neck alignment? Really?

It’s important to know that if the body has experienced enough trauma to have a mild brain injury, it has experienced enough trauma to have a neck injury. This video on alignment and post-concussion syndrome show why: The following is from a feedback form taken from a high school student, about 8 weeks after his… Continue Reading

In response to the new Will Smith movie “Concussion” – I recently wrote about my decision to not allow my sons to play football. And then I shared that decision on Facebook. It might have stirred up a little controversy. Based on my previous postings to my practice Facebook page – this post – far… Continue Reading

Dr. Bennet Omalu held the brains of many famous men in his hands. Brains donated to him by athletes (mostly NFL players) after their death. And Dr. Omalu himself will become more famous – more famous perhaps than he is now – when box office superstar Will Smith plays him in the new movie release,… Continue Reading

Concussion as a neck problem not just a head problem? Why you need a second opinion for post-concussion syndrome

It’s the start of the fall sports season, which means more kids are going to be sidelined by concussions. (And some will even get concussions that go unrecognized and not diagnosed by a doctor – more on that below…) Many of those will recover without much suffering. But others will go on to experience persistent… Continue Reading
