Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care

A specialized approach to the relationship between your head, neck, and spine.

The upper cervical spine includes the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), the first two vertebrae beneath your skull. These joints play important roles in posture control, neck function, and sensory information related to balance and coordination. It is the home of vital transition from brain to body.

We draw from several upper cervical approaches to evaluate and address spinal alignment and mechanical dysfunction.

We do not focus exclusively on the top of the neck. Our approach considers the relationship between the upper cervical spine, the rest of the neck, and whole-body posture.

Posture Correction and Structural Chiropractic Care

Your posture tells a story about how your body adapts to gravity and old injury.

Head tilt, uneven shoulders, forward head posture, and pelvic asymmetry can reflect longstanding movement patterns and mechanical adaptations.

We use standing posture assessments, photographs, spinal examinations, and imaging when appropriate to better understand these patterns.

Our treatment approach considers the relationship between spinal joint function, muscular tension, posture, and movement. We also document changes over time to help patients understand their progress.

NeckCare: Advanced Cervical Spine Testing and Rehabilitation

We don’t just ask whether your neck feels better. We can measure how it functions.

NeckCare is a specialized assessment and rehabilitation system that provides information about cervical movement and control.

Our testing includes:

  • Cervical Range of Motion: Measures how far your neck moves in different directions.
  • Joint Position Error: Evaluates your ability to accurately reposition your head without visual guidance.
  • Cervical Movement Control: Measures how accurately you can guide and control head movements during computerized testing.

These assessments help identify movement limitations, coordination difficulties, and changes in cervical function.

We use the results to guide individualized rehabilitation recommendations and monitor progress.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) Therapy

Gentle electrical stimulation as part of an individualized treatment plan.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent uses very low-level electrical currents delivered through electrodes to targeted areas of the body.

We use FSM as a complementary therapy for selected patients. They may experience chronic pain, acute pain, injury, and surgical recovery, among other problems.

FSM can be incorporated into a chiropractic treatment visit or provided as a separate service. In some circumstances, home device rental may also be available.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Training

A noninvasive approach to pelvic floor muscle training.

The pelvic floor retraining is often the missing link for patients with a history of giving birth. It is also crucial for those who have undergone pelvic surgery or who are experiencing the effects of aging.

Not everyone responds to pelvic floor physical therapy, and some want to avoid the invasive aspect of pelvic floor rehab.

This service may be considered for selected individuals interested in improving pelvic floor muscle function or who have pelvic symptoms.

At your service: how we help

Not every patient needs every treatment. We listen to your history, understand your goals, and evaluate the findings that are most relevant to your concerns.

Depending on your needs, your evaluation may include:

  • A detailed consultation and spinal examination
  • Standing posture assessment and photography
  • Cervical or other spinal imaging when clinically indicated
  • NeckCare movement and sensorimotor testing
  • Joint mobility, muscular, and neurological examination

From there, Dr. Ward explains the findings and recommends a treatment plan appropriate for your goals and condition.

Some patients primarily need chiropractic adjustments. Others may benefit from specific rehabilitation exercises, microcurrent, or a combination of services.

Our emphasis is on providing care that is specific, purposeful, and measurable.

In most cases, no. We don’t believe in cookie-cutter care plans, especially when you’re transferring from another chiropractic office. Dr. Ward will review your previous care, discuss your progress and current concerns. From we determine what additional evaluation or treatment is needed. Our goal is to build on the progress you’ve already made, not unnecessarily start from scratch.

Most patients require X-rays, especially when receiving upper cervical chiropractic care. However, there are circumstances where X-rays may be unnecessary or where we recommend avoiding them. Imaging decisions are based on your individual history and clinical findings. If you have concerns about X-rays, we encourage you to discuss them directly with Dr. Ward.

Absolutely! We do things a little differently here. We understand that our approach may not be right for everyone. We’re happy to discuss your health history, concerns, and goals to figure out if we are good fit.
